Miss Universe In Ghana

Miss Leila Luliana da Costa Viera Lopes, Miss Universe 2011, on Saturday has arrived in the country for a three-day tour. This forms part of activities to educate people on the causes and prevention of HIV/AIDS around the globe, and in Ghana Miss Lopes would visit and donate to some SOS Villages among other activities. Miss Lopes� campaign involves raising awareness on AIV/AIDS, orphans, poverty and education, and the celebration of achievements of West Africans, which according to had been easily overlook. The beauty queen, an Angolan, said the title would empower her to help her people to escape the history of war, and added that �It is about taking pride in my commitment to serving as an ambassador to my country, and to women everywhere.� Miss Lopes was named Dry Lands Ambassador by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), in an effort to combat land degradation, an issue that affects the entire African Continent. �Being Miss Universe means to me, I have the chance to walk proud by representing my country throughout the World. This title empowers me to be a role model and reach women and young girls everywhere to show them that they too have a voice to express themselves.�
