Dr. Wampah To Remain BoG Acting Governor Till December

The acting Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. H.K. Wampah, will be in charge till the end of December. Dr. Wampah was elevated to that position after it became vacant following the nomination of then Governor, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur as the Vice President of Ghana. Dr Wampah, prior to his elevation was the First Deputy Governor of the Central bank. Speculations are rife that the MD of Stanbic bank, Alhassan Andani, will be named the substantive governor. The appointment of the Governor is the sole prerogative of the President. However, Citi Business News sources say Dr Wampah is to be maintained as the Governor through to the elections. There have been calls by some stakeholders in the banking industry among others for Dr. Wampah to be maintained as Governor due to his experience in the field. Prior to becoming the first deputy governor of BoG in 2009, Dr Wampah was the Director of the Research and Statistics Department of the West African Monetary Institute (WAMI). He has also served as the head of BoGs Research Department.
