"All Political Parties Will Get Equal Coverage"

The National Media Commission (NMC) has promised to ensure fair coverage of the activities of all political parties on the state broadcaster, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and with all other media houses. A statement by the Danquah Institute on Monday, accused GBC of focusing on the activities of President John Dramani Mahama and ignoring the activities of other Presidential candidates. The statement which was signed by Executive Director of the Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere Darko, also described GBC as propaganda machinery for the ruling NDC. The Chairman of the National Media Commission, Kabral Blay Amihere however said the Commission had requested the state owned media to submit its election coverage itinerary for scrutiny. We would ask the state owned media to present their plans for the coming elections and through the discussions we can all forge a common platform to ensure that there is no tension generated by unfair coverage of the various political parties, he explained. Kabral Amihere added that the Commission will collaborate with the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) and the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) to organize a series of encounters for the private owned media houses. This according to him will highlight their responsibilities even if it set up by all kinds of people with their own interest.
