The founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, will be attending the national delegates congress of the party in Kumasi. Speaking to the press after President John Mahama presented his nomination forms, the General Secretary of the ruling party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, said ex-President Rawlings is scheduled to address the delegates. By 8.50am we expect all delegates to be properly seated Ten minutes after 9, we expect the arrival of His Excellency Flt. Lt Jerry John Rawlings, the founder of the party, Mr. Nketia said. At 9.20 arrival of His Excellency the vice-president then 9.30am arrival of His Excellency the President. Well then call the chairman of the Electoral Committee to lead us in adoption of the congress committees and adoption of the standing orders and then well receive solidarity messages. The Rawlingses have not been on good terms with the national leadership of the party and speculations are rife that they are behind the formation of the newly-formed National Democratic Party (NDP). The office of the former president is yet to confirm whether the Rawlingses will be gracing the occasion, however, there are media reports that they will be there on Friday as the party looks forward to endorse President Mahama as its flagbearer.
