I'll Make Job Creation Major Focus - Kofi Wayo

Mr Charles Kofi Wayo has pledged to make job creation a major focus of his administration if he wins the general election in December. Making the pledge after he had been endorsed as the flag bearer of the United Renaissance Party (URP) for the December 7 elections, Mr Wayo said his administration would deal resolutely with the high unemployment rate in the country. He was the sole candidate for the position of flag bearer at the partys national delegates congress held at the Dwabrem of the Centre for National Culture in Kumasi at the weekend. The National Vice-Chairman of the URP, Mr Fredua Agyemang, had earlier indicated his intention to contest the flag-bearer position but he later withdrew from the contest, paving the way for Mr Wayo to go unopposed. Expressing concern over the high unemployment rate, Mr Wayo said it was unacceptable for a nation that abounded in human and natural resources to have many of its people wallow in poverty. He promised that if given the nod, he would make good use of the human and material resources of the country for the benefit of the people. He questioned why Ghana should continue to rely on the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to implement its budget and said his government will depart from that system and fight its own fight. The URP flag bearer also maintained that accountability was crucial to building a vibrant economy, saying that on that score, he would run an open government where every pesewa spent would be accounted for. While describing himself as the champion of rural development, Mr Wayo urged the electorate, especially those in the rural areas, to vote massively for him to transform their lives. The congress was also used to elect new national executive members of the party for a four-year period. They are Mr Michael Okyere, National Chairman; Mr Fredua Agyemang, National Vice-Chairman; Mr Joseph Cudjoe, Secretary; Mr David Amansunu, Youth Organiser; Mr Kwabena Boateng, Organiser; Ms Mercy Nelson, Womens Organiser; Mr Ibrahim Issah, Communications Director, and Mr Abdulai Moro, Treasurer.
