Kwesi Appiah Admits To Selection Headache For 2013 CAN

Kwesi Appiah has welcomed the selection problems presented him after Ghana qualified for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. The Black Stars last Saturday sealed at next year's competition with a 1-0 win over Malawi to round up a 3-0 aggregate victory. With a host of players jostling for places in his 23-man squad, Appiah admits that the preparations for 2013 South Africa will be keener. I have been thinking about the kind of players that can play in such competitions, Appiah said after wrapping up qualification for the finals. Since I took over I have invited so many players and so I am thinking around how I can pick the best to play for Ghana. I wont say I have not been satisfied with those I have invited. I think when they all came they proved that given the chance they can play. The next few weeks appear the most crucial as Appiah has been left with some thinking to do with a number of more experienced players and emerging youngsters pushing to make the trip to South Africa. The other part of it is whether their ability can be of use now or in the future. Some of them are doing very well and may get the chance to go to the Cup of Nations. It is always good to have the blend of experienced and young players, the Ghana coach said. For the coach, the next international friendly date will be used to assess a couple of players. There are one or two players that I still need to look at. We have a game in November and so when I get them on board, it will help me a lot.
