Kwesi Appiah Lauds Asamoah Gyan's Leadership Qualities

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has lauded the leadership qualities of striker Asamoah Gyan who captained the team to qualify to the 2013 Nations Cup. The Al Ain player was handed the armband in the final round qualifier against Malawi over two legs. He failed to score in the both ties but helped in the 3-0 aggregate win over the Flames. Appiah has decided to score the 25-year-old the full marks for his role as skipper of the team. Asamoah Gyan is very good for the team as the captain because he always makes everybody happy and brings everybody happy and brings everyone together, Appiah said. After training he gathers them to sing and he brings his own music. He also performs as a striker and is very important for us on the pitch. Gyan could be named permanent captain of the team for the tournament which will run from 19 January and 10 February. But he faces opposition from Israel-based John Pantsil, the teams most capped player and Sulley Muntari if selected. Real Madrid midfielder Michael Essien is also qualified to captain the Black Stars if he decides to play at the tournament.
