Is Tony Aidoo Performing Evaluation At The Presidency Or Doing Scrap Biz?

Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea has chastised Dr. Tony Aidoo, Head of Policy Monitoring and Evaluation Unit at the Presidency, for putting up a holier than thou attitude in the public eye and dinning with the devil in the dark. He accused Dr. Aidoo of having the penchant to criminalize and vilify his political opponents even when they have not erred. Nana Akomea wondered whether the former university lecturer was monitoring and evaluating policies as demanded of him, or monitoring and investing in scrap business which has to do with presidential cars which were not in good condition. His criticism was borne out of the controversies surrounding the purchase of a Ford Expedition with presidential specification which Dr. Aidoo bought for a paltry GHC 6,200. A group made up of New Patriotic Party (NPP) officials under the umbrella of The People Must Know, on Wednesday, accused Dr Tony Aidoo of using his position to grab a 2005 Ford Expedition at that paltry sum. But Dr Aidoo snickered at the attempt to link him to having engaged in a conflict of interest case in the purchase of the said vehicle. According to him, he followed due process in the purchase of the vehicle. But the NPP will have none of it. Citing examples in 2009, Nana Akomea claimed Dr Tony Aidoo was instrumental in the seizure of cars some of which belonged to private citizens, as government appointees accused NPP officials of looting state cars They invaded the homes of people to go and collect cars they said had been looted. This same Tony Aidoo went to the home of Kwabena Agyapong; invaded his home and took a photograph of his car that he said had been illegally looted. Today, he, as a senior official at the presidency, is buying a car from the Office of the President and when you ask him, he says oh, it was an auction. Innocent Tony Aidoo, he says it was on auction and he had to buy itand he says the car didnt have a gear box, the windscreen was melting and the air condition wasnt working. Tony Aidoo, is he a scrap dealer? Is Tony Aidoo a scrap dealer?he asked. In a recent interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FMs morning show Kokrokoo, the Director in Charge of Policy Monitoring and Evaluation at the Presidency pointed out that though the said vehicle was in a very bad condition," its state was not that "hopeless and therefore he could not be held liable for buying a car which was auctioned publicly. I am not the one who took the decision to scrap the car...and ordered its public auction. I am not the one who valued the car and set the price on it.... So where arises the conflict of interest? Dr. Aidoo asked on Peace FM.
