The second and final part of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA�s) organized Presidential Debate for flagbearers of the four political parties with representation in Parliament is underway.
Staunch followers of the four candidates - President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP); Dr Michael Abu Sakara of the Convention People's Party (CPP); and Mr Hassan Ayariga of the People's National Convention (PNC) - claimed victory after the first Debate held in Tamale a fortnight ago.
But the Banquet Hall of the State House today, presents yet another opportunity for them to settle the score or put their claims of victory beyond doubt.
Tonight, the presidential candidates are answering questions on areas such as good governance (peace and security, corruption, bureaucracy, the rule of law, as well as character and leadership), natural resource management (oil and gas, mining, forestry and environmental management) and women and gender issues.
The mental alertness of the four candidates is also being tested on other critical thematic areas, such as the youth and child development, persons with disability, sports, as well as culture and arts.
But will whoever emerge the victor carry the wherewithal into the December elections? Will the outcome or performance of any of the candidates in tonight�s� debate; make any crucial difference to the outcome of the polls? Only time will tell�..
