STATEMENT: Prez Mahama & NDC Should Apologise To Kufuor - Young Patriots

It has come to our notice that President Mahama will officially move into the Golden Jubilee House constructed by President Kufour on Thursday 7th February, 2013. Ironically, the person who announced this to the media is the Minster of Information Mr Mahama Ayariga, the very person who, as the spokesperson for former President Mills, told the whole world the NDC was and still is against the putting up of the edifice in principle. He intimated the NDC would have better used the resources to put up several development projects. Sam Pee Yalley and Hon Kojo Yankah, both former ministers under President Rawlings on Joy fm advocated that the Presidential Palace be used as a National Museum. Mr Pee Yalley went to the extra mile of indicating President Mills will not occupy the Jubilee house because it was located in a Zongo. Last but not least of our reminders, the National Security Coordinator, Larry Gbevlo Lartey said the Palace was unsafe to house the President because of various security reasons, including traffic. Never mind leading NDC members in 2008 elections said it was better used as a hen coop. What has since changed between when these comments were made and now to warrant the President moving in? Has Ghanas development challenges vanished or have the security threats including the traffic situation been resolved to make it safe for the President? We are tempted to recall the Daily Guide publication on or about 26th October, 2012 to the effect that President Mahama is running from the Ghost of former President Mills. The said publication indicated and Young Patriots later confirmed that President Mahama since the demise of former President Mills had refused to use the office of the President and was operating from his office as Vice President. Is the President being hounded by the ghost of the former President even in his Vice Presidential office in the castle? As much as the Young Patriots are happy to note that the President and the NDC have eaten humble pie and are moving into facility, we sincerely think as a matter of principle the President should explain to the good people of Ghana why he is moving into the facility. Secondly we request the President and the NDC to render an unqualified apology to Ghanaians and most especially President Kufour for playing petty politics with the matter. Ghanaians deserve better than the debasement of the issues and the immature way the NDC and President Mahama handled the matter. SIGNED Richard Nyamah Hopeson Adorye Fred Amankwah Sarfo John Kumah
