Ibrahim Sunday, former player of the Black Stars and one of the nation�s leading local coaches has backed under-fire coach James Kwasi Appiah to stay on as the coach of the Black Stars, after another failed attempt at winning the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa. Speaking to the GNA Sports, coach Sunday, said coach Appiah has indeed made a perfect case for local coaches by making it to the last four of the competition. �Though he failed to win the cup for Ghana, I think he made a strong case for us. He deserves all the commendation�. Coach Sunday noted. �In the past we employ foreign coaches and pay them between 30,000 and 40,000 dollars, give them minimum of two years to prepare the team and we get the same results by reaching the semi finals. �Now we have a coach who took over the team about seven months ago, with half the salary of other foreign coaches, but he managed to take the team to the last four. In my opinion he has done well and must stay on as the head coach of the Black Stars.� Coach Sunday noted. He said for the sake of continuity and consistency in technical direction, the coach must be given the opportunity to stay and build on the gains made so far. Coach Sunday added that, with the next national assignment in less than a month, it will only be proper to keep him as the head coach so he can build on the gains made in the competition. �We have one month to play the next world cup qualifiers and we cannot afford to sack our coach at this crucial moment. He has learnt a lot of lessons from the competition and I believe with the necessary corrections will be to achieve our goals in future�. He stated. Coach Sunday was full of praise for Stephen Keshi for leading Nigeria to their third continental glory. �This is another typical case for local coaches. I believe our people can make it when given the opportunity and the needed support.� He stated. The former African Footballer of the Year, called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to reorganize themselves by working on their mistakes in order to make amends in the future.
