I'm Still Mr Beautiful - Who Says I'm Not Selling?

It seems the tango between Clement Bonney popularly known as Mr. Beautiful and Kumasi based producers is far from over as the latter has threatened to quit acting in Kumasi-made movies if the hate attitude of some producers remain the same. Mr. Beautifuls decison is in reaction to comments that were expressed in Kumasi at the beginning of the year that his movies have received low patronage following his endorsement of then candidate Mahama during the last elections. He told Showbiz last week, Who told them that my movies do not sell anymore in Kumasi? Let them go and ask Nyankonton Films to tell them how much sales was made when I featured in their new movie this year. But the man who many viewers have enjoyed for his comic roles in local movies claims he has had to take the quit decision because of what he said was a deliberate attempt by some producers to make him unpopular among movie enthusiasts in Kumasi. Since, I publicly declared my political affiliation during the last elections; some of the producers have embarked on unnecessary vendetta to dent my image due to our political differences. he said. Without mincing words, he mentioned the names of Paul Adjei of Paul Gee Productions and one James, a movie director, as the main actors behind the plot to cause disaffection for him among his fans in Kumasi. Recounting his experience with James some few years ago, Mr Beautiful said that since he started acting in Kumasi movies, the guy had deliberately influenced some movie producers not to employ his services because of his inability to speak Asante twi. I remember that he once told me that if I cannot speak Twi, then I should stop acting in Kumasi because no one will appreciate my acting skills when I speak in Fanti but that was to be disputed later because I made an impact in Kumasi even when I still used my native Fanti language as my medium of communication and it is this same James who is telling other producers not to use me he added. Earlier this year, Showbiz carried a report about the decision of some movie enthusiasts in Kumasi to boycott movies that had John Dumelo and Mr. Beautiful in them because the two had publicly declared their support for the President during the last election which was said to have affected movie sales in Kumasi. But Mr. Beautiful dismissed the report as mere speculation and a plot by the producers to cause disaffection for him due to personal and political interests. According to him, because of the speculations which has not being verified through any research, some producers who featured him in movies before last elections have decided not to use him on their posters. Even though I have threatened to quit acting in Kumasi movies, I wouldnt mind working for Miracle Films and Nyankonton Productions. Mr. Beautiful said that he wasnt expecting any appointment from the government adding that I have my own personal businesses which fetches me money and I want to concentrate on that. For him, this year is going to be what he termed as fireworks because he has moved to another level in his acting career.
