Ghana�s boxing star Joseph �King Kong� Agbeko made Ghana proud when he beat his Colombian opponent Luis Melendez to win the IBO Bantamweight Champion at the Accra Sports Stadium early Saturday morning March 22, 2013 under the auspices of Fresh King Entertainments. The fearless fighter was crowned winner after 12 rounds of exciting exchanges. The Ghanaian won by a unanimous decision with referee Deon Dwarte of South Africa scoring the bout 117-111, Ataa Eddie Pappoe of Ghana, 119-111 and Laten Oumgar of the Netherlands also scoring the bout 117-113. Fighting before a large crowd made up of football stars, musicians, and movie stars with the Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah as the special guest of honour. Some of the celebrities and familiar faces present to support Agbeko includes: Samini who sang the Ghana National Anthem, Actor Majid Michel, Kwabena Kwabena and his wife Abena, Rapper Trigmatic, Highlife musician Kwaisey Pee, Comedian Funny Face, Actress Lydia Forson, Hiplife Group 4X4, Zainab of Big Brother Africa fame, Boxer Josuah Clottey former Ghanaian Boxing Legend Professor Azumah Nelson among others. Agbeko had tough time dealing with the Columbian right from round one as they traded punches in the first three rounds making the contest a close one by the third round. What a birthday present for Joseph Agbeko as the victory which fell exactly on Agbeko�s birthday Agbeko has now moved his fight record to 33 fights, with 29 wins, and four losses, whilst Melendez now stands at 35 fights, 25 wins, 8 loses and one draw. Meanwhile the Columbian believes the verdict was a bit exaggerated. Through his interpreter, he told journalists after the bout that he thought the bout was closer than the verdict showed.
