Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister pledges open door policy with media

Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, on Wednesday pledged not to restrict any media organisation, especially the private media, in the course of their national duties. However, he was optimistic that the media would cross-check their facts and be circumspect in their reportage for social cohesion. Interacting with media practitioners in Sunyani, Mr Aidoo said he was hopeful that the Brong-Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council (BARCC) and the media would work as a team to improve on the level of development in the region. He said to attract investors into the region, the media should endeavour to minimize negative reports and highlight the economic potentials that could be tapped for its development. Mr Aidoo, who is also Member of Parliament for Sefwi Wiawso, said the media could not be blacklisted if the nation was to achieve accelerated development and stressed the need for a collaborative partnership between the BARCC and the media for socio-economic development. He entreated the media against writing scary headlines, which sometimes was a draw back on investors into the region, and concentrate on development issues. Mr Aidoo expressed appreciation of the work of the media and was optimistic that such collaboration would be strengthened for their mutual benefit. He advised the media to ensure that they extended their work to cover activities of the municipal and district assemblies in the region. Mr Felix Chaahaah, Chief Director at the BARCC, said the media played an important role in national development and, therefore, the BARCC would continue to engage the media at regular intervals.
