Over Voting At NDC Students Polls

Some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) at the University of Ghana are calling for the annulment of a recent campus election results due to over voting. They have actually issued a May 7, 2013 ultimatum for the annulment of the results. Otherwise there will be some prolific actions from us, they said in a petition signed by Angelo Fiawotoafor and Paul Anderson. The students, calling themselves the Concerned and Dedicated Members of Legon NDC-TEIN, noted that the voters register, as supplied by the campus Electoral Commissioner (EC), Mildred Bosoro had a total 503 qualified voters, and all the polling agents of the persons who stood for elections confirmed that total voter turnout was 496, but in some cases votes counted was higher than even the number of registered voters. A statement from the student said for the presidential elections, the votes counted came to 506 and for the Organizing Secretary and Womens Commissioner elections, the votes came to 503 each, while that of the General Secretary came to 463, which is below the total voter turnout. The students provided the results as it showed on the pink sheets as follow: PRESIDENTIAL Prince K. Bansah..117 Franklin S. Apau..183 Alhassan M. The concerned students also want to the constituency, regional and national executives of the TEIN to intervene and ensure free and fair elections. Adom News called on the campus EC, Mildred Bosoro and the TEIN Patron Prof. Ahiawordor, but they both declined comment. Meanwhile another official of the TEIN said the aggrieved students need to follow due process in filing their complaint.
