Man United 5 - 5 West Brom... Lukaku Spoils Fergie's Party

ALEX FERGUSONS last game in football management gave him some serious squeaky bum time as United blew a three-goal lead in a thumping 5-5 draw. Romelu Lukaku was the hat-trick hero party-pooper, scoring a scrappy goal in the 86th minute as Fergie left football red with fury. United withstood a West Brom comeback at 3-2 after they had been 3-0 up, but ANOTHER comeback from 5-2 to make it 5-5 ruined their afternoon. Javier Hernandez thought he had put the game out of West Broms reach with a cool finish from Giggs' cross for 5-2. But sub Lukaku had other ideas, plaguing Anders Lindegaard's goal and ruining what looked like an easy win for the champions. In his 1,500th game as manager, the Scot got a guard of honour from both his and the opposing players before his final side took the pitch. And Fergusons United did what they have done best for 26 years: attack, attack, attack, and quickly went 3-0 up. Shinji Kagawa opened the scoring on just six minutes, Javier Hernandez chased Alexander Buttners long pass to cross for the Japanese to head home. Just three minutes later United doubled their lead through Antonio Valencia jinking dribble on the right. His cross was then turned into his own net by Jonas Olsson. Provider Buttner then turned finisher as United went 3-0 up. Arriving on the overlap, the Dutchman collected Tom Cleverleys pass and drilled his shot past Ben Foster. But if Fergie was putting his feet up, West Brom gave the 71 year-old some food for thought. James Morrison pulled one back for the hosts meeting a cross from the right for his fifth of the season. It was 3-1 to United at half time. Straight after the break though, the Baggies gave Ferguson some squeaky bum time through substitute Romelu Lukaku, who only had to pass the ball into the net after a mix-up by Anders Lindegaard. But United would not be kept quiet. Valencia again turned Chris Brunt inside out, providing the perfect cross for Van Persie to finish into the roof of the net. And in typical United fashion under Fergie, the score went to 5-2 as Hernandez turned in sub Ryan Giggs cross low on the left. Before the end through Olsson made his own afternoon one to forget through one of the misses of the season. But Lukaku gave West Brom hope again, before Youssouf Mulumbu scored just seconds later to make it 5-4. And in a stunning finale, United conceded a scrappy late goal as Lukaku made it 5-5 in front of a bouncing Hawthorns crowd. And Paul Scholes made his last appearance in football in a week of last outings for the likes of David Beckham, Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher and Alex Ferguson its the end of the world as we know it in English football.
