Timaya, Wizkid Battle Samini

Reports reaching News-One from Nigeria say several of the countrys top artistes have thrown their weight behind celebrated singer Timaya and popular music star Wizkid as the two artistes jointly represent their country for the 2013 edition of the annual Ghana Meets Naija musical concert slated for June 29. Although the original plan was for Timaya to lead the Nigerian group because of his unique theatrics and stage presence, News-One has gathered he would be playing lead artiste alongside Wizkid because the latter has a huge following in Ghana where the event would be taking place. News reports last week had speculated that Sarkodie would be leading the Ghanaian group of musicians but News-One checks from event organizers, Empire Entertainment, on Tuesday showed that dancehall king, Samini, would rather be the lead artiste for the Ghanaian side and that he would be ably assisted by the newly crowned Artiste of the Year, R2Bees. Other top artistes from Ghana include E.L., Okyeame Kwame, D-Black, Edem, Double, Dr. Slim and Kaakie. Timaya would be coming to Ghana for the very first time despite his popularity in the country. He is a celebrated award-winning Nigerian musician popular for socially conscious music with constant references to the role of God in overcoming difficult circumstances. Wizkid, on the other hand, says he considers Ghana to be his second home and has been a regular face on numerous music stages in Ghana. The two are however keeping to their chest which other musicians would be representing their country, although names like Davido and Tiwa Savage are already making the rounds. Ghana Meets Naija has become the biggest ever music concert in Ghana. It is an annual event which brings together musicians from both countries to battle each other on one stage on one night. Previous years editions had attracted some 8000 people but this years edition is at a much smaller venue, the Accra International Conference Center which seats an estimated 2000 persons. Event organizers say the tickets would go for GH100 for the upper terrace of the hall while the lower terrace seats would cost GH200 per head.
