An orthopaedic centre to assist correct and bring relief to people having problems with their spines and limbs is to be set up at Offinso. Mr. Barima Antwi, Director of the Physically-challenged Action Foundation, said the facility would be sited at its training and rehabilitation centre at Maase in the Offinso Municipality. This has become necessary and more urgent given the difficulty people, especially those with physical disability, requiring such medical services often go through. Some of them at times have to be sent outside by the Foundation, resulting in huge medical bills. Mr. Antwi, who announced this when the Asuoyeboa Circuit Methodist Women�s Fellowship donated a number of items towards the upkeep of trainees at centre, appealed for support for the project. The gifts included four bags of rice, two bags of maize, a bag each of gari and sugar, edible and a quantity of tinned tomatoes. The centre has been assisting the physically challenged to acquire skills in batik, tie and dye, leather works, hairdressing and dressmaking, shoe-making, livestock and vegetable farming, to become economically self-dependent. Over the past 25 years it has trained, equipped and set up 1,200 people with physical disability in businesses. Mr. Antwi said they had recently established a physiotherapy unit and that was bringing tremendous benefits not only to the trainees but the general public. It has also constructed an Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) unit. The Right Reverend Joseph Impraim, Superintendent Minister of the Circuit, invited individuals and organizations to support the Foundation in its efforts at transforming the lives of persons with disability. He said the well-to-do could also adopt some of the trainees and provide them with their basic needs.
