A ferocious fire on Wednesday morning gutted the house of the late highlife music star, Akwasi Ampofo Adjei who died in 2004 at the age of 57. The fire consumed the three-bedroom house situated at Adweeho in the Mampong New Road around 8:15am. The blaze, which was so severe, also burnt to ashes awards, citations and books containing music written by the late musician. Good Samaritans in the area rushed to the scene to quench the fire but their efforts were futile. Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service were called to the disaster scene but the fire had flattened the house when they arrived. Addae Bobbey, a resident of Mampong who was at the scene said the fire started when Armstrong Ampofo Adjei, son of the late musician was alone in the house. According to him, the late musician�s son said the lights went off and suddenly power was restored. Ampofo Adjei said he heard a strange sound in the meter of the house when power supply was restored. Minutes later he said the refrigerator in one of the rooms started burning so he raised the alarm. People in the area rushed to the house to help but they could not battle the ferocious fire in the end. He said fire fighters were then called but when they arrived, the house together with everything in it was already in ashes.
