Mubarak Muntaka: Let Girls Marry At Age 14 If They Get Pregnant

The Majority Chief Whip who is also the NDC MP for Asawase, Mubarak Muntaka has expressed worry at our legal system and noted that once a girl gets pregnant at for instance age 14, she should be allowed to marry at that age instead of saying that she must attain the age of 18 before she can enter a matrimonial home. He and other members of parliament were making a contribution on teenage pregnancy in parliament yesterday. They were expressing worry at the manner in which teenagers who get themselves pregnant are given an automatic red card by society. According to the MPs once a teenager gets pregnant she should be supported and encouraged rather than vilified and scorned since this destroys the potential of such teenagers. Some MPS noted that when a teenage boy or man impregnates a teenage girl, they should be supported to assume full responsibility for the pregnancy to serve as an emotional booster for such girls.
