The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu has sided with the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII�s) ranking of Political Parties as the Second Most Corrupt Institution in Ghana.
According to her, campaigning during primaries by some political parties has now turned into the most profitable venture for some people, who will move heaven and earth to ensure their preferred candidate wins because of financial incentive.
Hon. Ursula Owusu further questioned why these individuals who exhibit excellent organization skills during primaries, do not replicate it during the general elections and urged all sympathizers and activists to always work for the interest of the party, and not because they would be rewarded financially.
�How come they don�t exhibit that same energy? Is it because they will not benefit directly from the campaign?� she asked.
�When it happens like that, it leaves the primaries for sale to the highest bidder. That is also corruption and there is no excuse for it,� she opined.
The Ablekuma West MP was speaking on Oman Fm, an Accra-based private radio station, on Transparency International (TI�s) latest Corruption Barometer Survey.
In its 2013 compilation of annual institutional corruption in Ghana, the GII, local Chapter of TI, retained the police service at the number one position on the reprobate pecking order, just as it has been for ages followed by Political Parties and the Judiciary. The Report, released on Tuesday, also ranked Ghana�s Legislature as the sixth most corrupt institution.
Other bodies and organizations named in the survey include the Media, Health Services, Business and Private Sector, the Military, Religious Bodies and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO�s).
