Over Taxation Will Kill The Private Sector - Omari Wadie

A staunch member of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Omari Wadie has strongly opposed the idea of the NDC government trying to raise revenue to develop the country through domestic taxation when larger numbers of Ghanaians are already suffering in poverty. According to the former chairman of the NPP for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, the private sector is the engine of growth in the country and so any attempt to suppress this sector will send the country into a ditch since expansion of businesses in the country give life to the economy. Making his submission on Okay FM, he said that the NDC government should not go borrowing from the Bank of Ghana and stop increasing taxes in the country; adding that it is wrong to use tax to raise revenue but taxes must give holiday to companies and must be used to manage the economy. He indicated that if you over tax the individuals and the businesses in the country, you kill the people and the life of the businesses in the country are squeezed out; stressing that when companies are over taxed, expansion cannot take place and neither can they employ other people. He further said that the NDC government wants to over tax the people because they have used the money in the country to pay judgment debt and the rest have been invested in areas where no account can be rendered. He said that the country is endowed with natural resources and the able men to carry out the duty but the country at the moment is in serious leadership crisis; in that the NDC government cannot assure Ghanaians anything good because they have lost the focus.
