Nana Akomea: Conduct Investigations Into Ken Kuranchies Transfer

Director of Communication of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for investigations to be conducted in the transfer of Ken Kuranchie, Editor of the Daily Searchlight newspaper from one prison to the other. Nana Akomea feels a thorough investigation must be conducted to ascertain the actual reason for the transfer to avoid one from thinking it was a deliberate attempt by government to frustrate Ken because of his affiliation with the NPP. Ken Kuranchie just completed serving a 10-day jail term after he was sentenced by the nine judges of the Supreme Court presiding over the election petition. In what became a controversial issue, Ken spent the days being moved from one prison to the other. He was first taken to Nsawam, then to Ho, to Kete Krachie and then back to Nsawam where he was released on Thursday. We must take a critical look at Ken Kuranchies case and how he was treated. Someone who has been arrested and sentenced and within eight days, he has been transferred about four times. With such treatment, it can easily been considered as political persecution. It will make the imagination of people run wild and even think that probably Ken was sentenced not only because of criminal contemptas for me I will request that an investigation be conducted into the various transfers of Ken Kuranchie; four times in eight days? That is not right, Nana Akomea told Kwami Sefa-Kayi on Peace FM on Thursday. He however, asked communicators as well as journalists to be mindful of their utterances as far as proceedings at the Supreme Court is concerned. He added: The main lesson we should all learn from this is that everybody has a right to disagree or agree with proceedings that go on at the Supreme Court or actions of the judges, but in doing so, you have to make sure you dont disrespect them or indulge in scandalisation.
