Ben Kluvi, a popular National Democratic Congress (NDC) activist in Sunyani and his accomplice, Yussif Maha, a nephew of the Brong Ahafo Regional Youth Organizer of the NDC, have been arrested for allegedly assaulting two members of the Communication Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the premises of a radio station in Sunyani. The suspects, who were charged with physical assault and threat, were arrested on Monday after they allegedly brutally assaulted Maxwell Mahama and Kwame Baffoe on the premises of Space FM last Friday. The police however confirmed to Daily Guide that the two NDC hooligans had been granted bail pending further investigations into the matter. Eyewitnesses informed Daily Guide that Ben Kluvi and Yussif Maha stormed the radio station on a motorbike, shouted on top of their voices and threatened to deal drastically with the NPP Communication Team members who were discussing political issues on air. According to officials of the radio station, the NDC refused to be part of the discussion as they indicated that they would not join Kwame Baffoe aka Abronye DC on any radio programme. Eyewitnesses explained that the two NDC thugs were angered by accusations made by the NPP activists. Reports said immediately Ben Kluvi saw Maxwell Mahama he pounced on him and gave him hefty slaps which landed him on the floor. An attempt by the host of the programme, Oheneba Kennedy to intervene proved futile as the berserk NDC thugs hit him in the process. The Brong Ahafo Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, who was informed about the attack, swiftly moved to the place and rushed the two NPP activists to the police station to lodge an official complaint where they were issued with medical forms to attend hospital. �I personally took the two communicators to the hospital with their swollen eyes and bruises on their foreheads,� he said. Mr. Asomah-Cheremeh indicated that he would pursue the matter to its logical conclusion to prevent future occurrences in the region. Meanwhile, a press statement issued by the NPP Communication Team has condemned the attack describing it as barbaric. The party also called on the Sunyani police to critically handle the case and allow the culprits to feel the full weight of the law. A statement, signed by the Regional Communication Director, Kofi Ofosu Boateng, said while we all thought common sense and tolerance were prevailing in the political space in one of the potentially charged political hotbeds in the country, some supporters of the ruling party have once again proved us wrong. �It was our belief that in the interest of peace and security in this country we had consigned to the bin barbarism, intolerance and puerile tendencies in the general body politic and in specific, atmosphere of political discourse, with much regret the reverse is rather the case,� the statement said.
