6 DCEs Sacked. In Volta

Six Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Volta Region who were hoping to be retained by President John Dramani Mahama have been sacked leaving them in a state of shock. The six had been directed by the President to hand over to the Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo. Some of them have since last week been holding quiet handing over ceremonies in their various Municipal and District Assemblies with the rest to hand over this week. This was disclosed to Daily Guide by reliable sources close the sacked MDCEs. Sources close to the Presidency also hinted that four more DCEs will soon follow suit and that it was just a matter of time for them to receive the letters to hand over. The six who were sacked include the MCE of Ho, Isaac Kodobisah who handed over about a week ago, Bernard Amable, MCE of Ketu South, , Daniel Amelorku, DCE of South Tongu, Nana Kumesi Bonsi of Jasikan District, Kadjebis Seth Alifui and Alhaji Dzinadu Bubey of Central Tongu. Although details were sketchy as to why they were being made to handover and make way for new appointees, their constituents in their various jurisdictions believed their stewardship left much to be desired. While some constituents have taken to the streets to rejoice others have been expressing mixed feelings. Interestingly, all the six were appointed by the late President, Prof. Atta Mills whose one year anniversary was celebrated in the past week. The six, like all other MDCEs appointed four years ago, were supposed to have ended their tenure in May but stayed on until their handing over directives were given. The remaining MDCEs who have also spent four years but have not been sacked include Sylvester Tornyeava of Keta Municipality, Michael Adjaho of Agotime-Ziope, Krachi West, Moses Kwame Punyeh and Nkwanta South DCE, Joseph Ninkab. The rest are Nkwanta North DCE, Paul Levin Gyato, South Dayi DCE, Kafui Semenu Bekui, Krachi East DCE, Raphael Kofi Ogyemoko and Ketu North DCE, Claver Kofi Lawson. Daily Guide sources said barring any last minute changes another four out of these persons would soon be kicked out. This has left them sitting on tenterhooks wondering if their mandate would be renewed by the President or not. Meanwhile, MDCEs who Daily Guide sources have confirmed would be maintained include Hohoe MCE, Dr. Mrs. Margaret Quarcoo and Biakoye DCE, Nana Louis Akata as well as all recently appointed District Chief Executives whose appointments became possible due to the creation of the new districts.
