The recent rejection of President John Mahama �s nominations of persons for the positions of metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCE�s) is the handiwork of the President�s own party, National Democratic Congress (NDC), and not external forces. The poisonous elements embarking on the dirty crusade have almost succeeded with pockets of violence in certain areas in connection with the naming of the MMDCE�s. The Enquirer has that certain figures within the party with high expectation of getting ministerial appointments, but were not appointed are behind the massy situation. The Enquirer gathered last Sunday evening that those disgruntled elements have teamed up with some executives at various Constituencies to cause disaffection for the President. The National Executives of the NDC because of the election petition presently before the Supreme Court in a way did not have much time to work on the confirmation of the President�s nomination. The situation made those persons who hitherto were confident of having ministerial appointment to have their way to their own thing. Another group of persons whose long hands have been seen in the rejection of nominee MMDCE�s are some old Parliamentarians who were rejected at the party�s primaries to have parliamentary candidates. The Enquirer has it that those defeated Parliamentarians felt at the time that some MMDCE�s did not help them and it is payback time for them. Already, the National Organiser of the NDC, Mr. Yaw Boateng Gyan, has expressed displeasure at manner the nominations is leading to agitations. Mr. Gyan, speaking on the Accra based Montie FM said he was not happy with the destruction of property by irate youth in some areas. Apart from him, Mr. Ludwig Holdze, National Organizer of the party, has also asked aggrieved persons to use the right channel to address issues instead of resorting to violence. The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), Mr. Akwasi Oppong-Fosu in swearing the first batch of MMDCE�s in Sekondi in the Western Region, condemned the agitations. According to him, such development was distasteful and disturbing, adding the President had the prerogative to nominate anyone as MMDCE. The agitations that followed the nominations and retaining of some of the MMDCE�s have sparked wild agitations in some areas. Elsewhere at Nkwanta in the Volta Region and Salaga in the Northern Region, irate youth burnt vehicles and destroyed property. Some arrests have been made at Nkwanta, as well as Salaga.
