On the occasion of our 21st anniversary celebrations, the National Youth Wing of NPP wishes to commend the rank and file of our Party for their continued support, commitment, loyalty and dedication to the Dankwa-Busia-Dombo tradition. We are celebrating the 21st anniversary of our party in conditions very favourable to the forces of democracy, justice and free market economy. 21 years ago when the NPP was formed, the country was under an oppressive, dictatorial and wild exploitation of the people in a complete culture of silence. It took the bravery and intellectual ability of the leadership of our great party, past and present, to fight for the restoration of democratic governance, freedom and liberty to the people of Ghana. The last 21 years of our existence has witnessed an impressive achievement in the socio-economic and political landscape of this country. Upon our coming to power in 2001, Ghana experienced tremendous economic and social transformation that are manifested in Health, Education, Agriculture, Youth and Women empowerment and other sectors of our economic and social life. Since the inception of the fourth Republic, the NPP has been the most successful in initiating and implementing pro poor policies and programmes in the country. Some of these enviable policies and programmes include among others, NHIS, NYEP (GYEEDA), School Feeding Programme, Free Maternal Health Care, Metro Mass Transport System, Mass Cocoa Spraying etc. There were also massive infrastructural developments in the country: construction of roads, schools, hospitals, sports stadia etc. The introduction of the NYEP (GYEEDA) in particular provided a comprehensive Youth empowerment and development strategy which helped alleviate the plight of the Ghanaian Youth in the formal and informal sectors in terms of job creation.It is however regrettable to say that, the same policy which has been re-christened as GYEEDA is being used as a vehicle by unscrupulous persons in governance today to loot the State of its already scarce resources. As a result, the policy has virtually been collapsed by these acts of massive corruption. As we celebrate 21 years, the NPP continues to spearhead radical democratic and electoral reforms in the country. This is evidenced in the resort to constitutional means of addressing grievances, as it is currently ongoing at the Supreme Court. We reaffirm our commitment to the people of this country that we would not do anything to disturb the peace we currently enjoy. Again, we wish to state our sincere gratitude as the Youth Wing of the Party for the leverage and the platform given to us to nurture our potential in Politics as future leaders of this party and the country.
