Mahamas Decision To Scrap Colleges of Educations Allowances Is a Lousy One - Balado Manu

The decision by President John Dramani Mahama to scrap the allowances of Colleges of Education and make the students pay their fees just like other tertiary institutions is a lousy one, according to the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South Constituency, Hon Balado Manu. According to him, it will take a longer period for the result of this policy to manifest but when such policy is allow to be implemented, the basic education will collapse eventually; in that when the students are allowed to pay their fees and other learning materials from their pockets, they will become freelancers like the university graduates who can then choose any profession and also decide when to go to the classrooms to teach. Speaking on Okay fm, he said the inherent danger in the policy is that upon graduation, the graduate teachers can choose to stay at home after they have managed to pay the loan they took just like the university graduates who have now formed the Unemployed Graduate Association of Ghana. the President is sacrificing this countrys education on the altar of political expediency and this is very sad and that is why I am calling this policy a lousy one. one thing about this policy of President Mahama is that the classrooms of the Colleges of Education will be populated just as the universities but the sad thing is that, on completion very few of them will be heading towards the classrooms to teach, the former NPP MP stated.
