NEAT FM 100.9 Takes Over

NEAT 100.9 FM has become the radio station with the fastest growing audience in Accra and its environs although the name of the station has remained a hidden secret since it started test transmission several months ago. News-One has confirmed from official but anonymous sources that the stations name is NEAT 100.9 Fm and actually belongs to camera-shy business magnate Osei Kwame Despite. Initial reports speculated the name as Asomdwe but fresh information coming from credible sources say it would rather be known as NEAT 100.9 FM. So far, the station has been able to attract new listeners and get them addicted, perhaps, due to its consistency in playing nonstop good music ranging from evergreen old time mega hits to some of the contemporary biggest hits. Aside music, NEAT 100.9 FM has also used comedy to capture radio listeners. Some of the favourite comedy tapes played on the station include one that captures a popular Ghanaian pastor saying that smoking a stick of cigarette reduces the life span by three hours; a shot of alcohol reduces the life span by five hours while neglecting parental responsibilities reduces the life span by forty five years. Another tape also captures a man saying he was on his way to buy equipment like tomatoes, onions and pepper to prepare stew. When he was told the items he had mentioned were not equipment, he apologized and said they are rather instruments. He again apologized and described them as gadgets. NEAT 100.9 FM joins the Despite Group of Companies that operates Peace 104.3 FM, Okay 101.7 FM, Hello FM and United Television (UTV). The Despite Group of Companies has over the years been noted for poaching some of the best talents from media houses all over the country and the establishment of NEAT 100.9 FM is reported to have sent owners and managers of radio stations jittery. Indeed, the station has already poached celebrated broadcast journalist Adakabre Frimpong Manso. Mr. Adakabre has dumped his hitherto paymasters, Multimedia Group Limited, and picked up a new juicy job with NEAT 100.9 FM as head of programmes, head of news and host of the morning show. A Peace FM source has told News-One that reports at the station say NEAT 100.9 FM would be a predominantly Akan-speaking station adding that behind-the-scenes negotiations for poaching some industry big names have started. The source said NEAT 100.9 FM would operate from the famous Ship House which houses Okay FM, Peace FM and UTV at Abeka Junction in Accra.
