President John Mahama has condemned bribery allegations made against the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II. A media publication last week alleged that the Asantehene bribed the Supreme Court Judges who presided over the election petition to rule in favour of the President, John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The Manhyia Palace has however denied the allegation and has since reported the matter to the National Media Commission for the necessary action to be taken. Addressing the congregation at the Cedar Mountain Chapel in Accra on Sunday, President Mahama condemned the recent media fabrication saying, �in the last few weeks, some of the things that have been said about the Justices of the court is unfortunate and it is wrong and all of us right thinking people must condemn it.� Being an astute communicator himself, the President challenged the media to build society by avoiding sensationalism in their reportage. �I mean look at the recent lie that somehow Otumfuor was the conduit for passing bribes to the Judges and now you can�t hold anybody responsible because somebody did it online and so that should warn our media�it must serve as a lesson to all of us.� President Mahama also called on Ghanaians to offer constructive criticisms to move the nation forward in the right direction. �The media is supposed to advance society, it is not supposed to harm society, it is not supposed to divide society and so when you listen to the cacophony and the insults and the intemperate language, you wonder is that moving society forward?� He added that the media, social and political commentators should learn to criticize �politely. You win a person over if you criticize him in a way that makes the criticism easy to take and that should inform the training of our children.�
