GNPC/Societe Generale Saga: Go To Court For Records

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) legal team, Lawyer Kwame Akuffo, has asked the Attorney General to request for certified copies of records containing the transaction of the sale of the Drill Ship Discover 511 from the law courts. This according to him, will unravel the mystery surrounding the transaction between Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and Societe Generale. The Societe Generale sued GNPC in a London court to recover the debt owed it by the state-owned oil company resulting from the transaction. GNPC indicated a few days ago that the corporation could not locate documents relating to the sale of Discover 511; the Drill Ship that was auctioned in July 2001 to liquidate judgment debt owed Societe Generale, adding, they knew nothing about the transaction. However, in a sharp U-turn, Chief Executive of GNPC, Nana Boakye Asafu-Adjeye told the Sole-Commissioner, Justice Yaw Apau that the corporation participated in the sale of the Drill Ship Discover 511 and some of the documents indicating the sale have been found. Lawyer Akuffo told Kwami Sefa-Kayi on Kokrokoo that there is no need to go back and forth on this issue. All that is needed is to write to the court or the arbitrator of the case and request for records with respect to the Society Generale and GNPC case and it will be given. You will find how the transaction was conducted and everything that ensued. The Attorney General needs to request for certified copies of the records of the case and that will bring the matter to a closure, he opined.
