President Mahama mourns Prof. Awoonor

President John Mahama on his way to New York, USA, has described as a sad twist of fate, Professor Kofi Awoonor's demise at the Nairobi Mall where terrorists killed over 50 shoppers. Prof Awoonor, Ghana's former Chair of the Council of State, died together with many others on Saturday September 21 at the Westgate Shopping Mall when shoppers were attacked by Al-Shabab. In a hand written tribute while transiting in London enroute to New York, President Mahama said: "I am shocked to hear the death of Prof Kofi Awoonor in Nairobi Mall terrorist attack. Such a sad twist of fate to place Prof at the wrong place at the wrong time. A writer, politician and traditionalist with great wit, sense of humour and very well-spoken. He will be sorely missed by family, friends, and the NDC of which he was a committed member".
