STATEMENT: Ongoing Mobilization Against Tariff Increases

The Mass Action Committee (also known as the Red Berets), after a meeting over the weekend, wish to serve notice, that we have began an ongoing nationwide mobilization effort to prepare the Ghanaian people for a series of massive protests against the hinted increases in tariffs set to be announced. We have began and would continue to engage various associations and groupings nationwide, who have always suffered under such draconian, lazy attempt by government at resolving economic difficulties that their actions and inactions have plunge the nation into. These include mechanics (fitting shop owners and workers), electrical appliance repairers, teacher groups, marketwomen and merchants, student unions and movements, shop owners, the Association of Ghana Industries, the TUC, barbering shop and salon owners, owners of small and medium sized companies and various youth groupings and farmers. We are calling on various civil society groups to join the mobilization effort and also make their voices heard and their protest registered with the corridors of power to show an insensitive government the resolve of the people. We further call on all Ghanaians through this Press Release, to ready ourselves, to join the massive nationwide protests which would soon engulf the nation to demand freedom from economic hardships, corruption and the recurring phenomenon of Create Loot and Share. This is the only language corrupt and insensitive governments the world over understand and we must speak it now or never!!!! Date to be announced soon!!! ....Signed.........
