Banker-to-banker Lottery Re-emerging

Mr. Frederick Kwobla Penu, Western Regional Sales Manager of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), on Saturday observed that the illegal lottery popularly known as Banker-to-Banker that was banned years ago was re-surfacing in the country. He said this when he presented a cheque for GH5,000 and 50 pieces of NLA branded T-shirts on behalf of the Authority to the Lower Axim Traditional Area towards this years Kundum festival. The Kundum Organizing Committee received the donation at a durbar to round-off the festival. Mr. Penu said the illegal lottery was gradually taking over the work of the NLA, the sole institution mandated by law to operate lottery in the country. He said the Western Regional Office of the NLA had not been able to meet revenue targets set by the Authority because of the Banker-to-Banker lottery. Mr. Penu said operators of the illegal lottery attack staff of the Authority who questioned them after their activities. He said whereas the NLA collected revenue for the government for development purposes, proceeds of the illegal lottery went into the pocket of individuals.
