Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KTH) has projected that Ghana needs additional 45,300 medical Doctors for quality health care delivery. According to Professor Frimpong Boateng, the country�s increasing population required additional qualified medical practitioners to meet the citizens� health needs. He also decried the insufficient number of Physicians in the country and recommended that government should commit more resources to improve the health sector. Speaking to Citi News, Prof. Frimpong Boateng said, the Physician patient ratio is currently "about 13 Physicians to about 13,000 patients.� He revealed that Ghana could only boast of a population of about 2,700 medical Doctors. He doubted Ghana�s ability to meet the Millennium Development Goal (MDGs) on health if the health personnel deficit remained unresolved. �If we want to move to an improved ratio to correspond with our middle income status then we need over 48,000 additional Doctors.� Professor Frimpong thus called for an improvement in the number of medical practitioners in the county to meet international standards. The former CEO of KTH reiterated the need for government to offer better incentive packages to encourage medical practitioners to live beyond reproach. �To be able to work well we need to motivate them with good working conditions and the necessary incentive packages needed to make them comfortable to discharge their duties.�
