Tariff Increment: Wereko-Brobbey's Comment Insensitive - Young Patriots

A suggestion by the former Volta River Authority (VRA) boss, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbeys that Ghanaians should accept the recent upward adjustment of utility tariffs has incurred the wrath of pro NPP pressure group, the Young Patriots. According to the former Chief Executive Officer of the VRA, Ghanaians should not to be outraged by the recent utility tariff increment especially with that of electricity. He claimed it was cheaper to pay for electricity bills which have been adjusted to 79% than to rely on candles. Disagreeing with his standpoint in an interview with Citi News, President of the Young Patriots, Richard Nyamah described Dr. Wereko-Brobbeys comment as insensitive to the plight of consumers. He thus asked Ghanaians to ignore such ridiculous talk and join forces with agitating civil society groups to kick against the implementation of the new tariffs. He accused Dr. Wereko-Brobbey of fronting for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and warned him to stop gambling with the lives of the ordinary masses. It looks like he is picking up the job of the PR for the government and he is doing so even at a time decent Ghanaians including members of the NDC are complaining about the increment in utility tariffs. The Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) recently announced the increment in utility tariffs standing at 79% for electricity and 52% for water which takes effect from October 1.
