Akomea Commiserates With Tony AidooIt Appears NDC Doesnt Want Him In The Frontline

Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the 2012 Electoral Campaign, Nana Akomea, has bemoaned the treatment being handed down to a leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) by the Mahama administration. Nana Akomea believes Dr Tony Aidoo, Head of Policy Monitoring and Evaluation at the Office of the President, deserves better treatment from the government than what he is currently being subjected to now. The NDC kingpin is reported to have openly expressed frustration that his office has not been functional since the death of President John Mills. An exasperated Tony Aidoo wondered if the office was created for the sole purpose of thanking him, since his outfit has lacked the sort of collaboration and support it enjoyed when it was created, a period during which he still lamented the poor quality information he was fed to work with. He told KABA, host of Asempa FMs Ekosii sen programme, he told show host KABA, that the disclosures he was making, including the non-payment of salaries for his staffers for a period of six months, were not issues he would ordinarily put out in the public domain. Citing lack of adequate funds and issues of expired information as some of the problems confronting his outfit, the former Deputy Defence Minister in the erstwhile Rawlings Administration wondered how anyone could employ highly skilled ICT personnel and resort to paying them a pittance. Clearly bothered by the lack of importance being attached to his office by higher authorities, Dr Tony Aidoo, who indicated his resolve to walk away any time since he believed he has done his bit for mother Ghana, disclosed that President Mahama was aware of the plight of the office. The president had promised to reinforce the office about nine months ago, he revealed. Speaking to the issue on the same network, Nana Akomea wondered why he (Tony) was not made to serve in as cabinet position in the current administration. To him, having held brief for the party, sometimes at the peril of his life, the least the NDC could do was offer him a position of importance in government. When they (Mahama led NDC government) came to power, I was surprised they did not give him (Tony Aidoo) a much more serious job to do. Where he is now is not much recognized. Dr. Tony Aidoo is not a kid; he has been a deputy minster before. He has been a major advocate for the NDC party. So the least I was expecting Tony Aidoo to be named as a cabinet minister. I dont think they (NDC) want him to work in the government..., he opined.
