FDA Unfazed By Tobinco Lawsuit

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has stated that it is unfazed by attempts by Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited to secure an order from the court restraining the Authority from destroying their products. Tobinco has applied for an interim injunction restraining the FDA from further destroying its imported products. This follows the Authoritys labeling of some drugs imported by the company as fake. But speaking to Citi News a Regulatory Officer with the Drugs Enforcement Department of the FDA, Issachar Coffie stated that the suit would not stop it from carrying out its mandate. He explained that since the statement does not deny what the FDA put in the media, actually it has compounded issues for them (Tobinco). If you look at the concerns that he raised, we know that we are working within the law. In a statement, he agreed that its the FDA who is mandated by law to certify drugs before you are allowed to distribute them.So if the FDA is saying that he has distributed products that have not been registered and certified by the FDA, what is the essence of him going to court, he stated. According to Mr. Coffie, FDA would continue with its mandate by ensuring public health and safety because these medicines can cause an individual to lose his or her life.
