Mac Manu Attends Ivorians Party Congress

A former Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Mac Manu has commended the largest opposition party in Cote dIvoire, PDCI-RDI for holding a successful congress to elect its leaders. He however cautioned PDCI-RDI members against complacency, saying the successful organization of the congress should spur them on to sustain the momentum gathered at the congress. The party was founded by Flix Houphout-Boigny, former Ivorian president. Mr. Mac Manu, in a solidarity message at the PDCI-RDIs 12th congress held in Abidjan on the theme, The PDCI with new challenges, renewal, rejuvenation and rebirth, said the congress reflects the partys commitment to internal democracy. He said the congress also signifies the partys trust and confidence in internal and external democracy. This, he said, was exhibited at the congress where the losing candidates pledged their support for the winner which brought about harmony and unity in the party. Mac Manu, who is Honorary Chairman of Democratic Union of Africa (DUA), said the Union was naturally disappointed with the political crisis in the aftermath of the countrys 2010 general elections but welcomed freedom and democracy in Cote dIvoire. He said DUA was of the firm belief that the congress would energize and mobilize PDCI-RDI, stressing that it would restore the party to its rightful place in democratic Cote dIvoire. Mr. Mac Manu, who is also Vice Chairman of the International Democratic Union (IDU) said, This has entrusted in the democratic parties including PDCI a new sense of democracy, freedom and responsibility. He stated that discussions at the congress would ensure the progress of PDCI-RDI and strengthen the democratic dispensation in Cote dIvoire.
