Huge Black Stars Winning Bonus Is Investment For The Future

The focus of many Ghanaians quite recently, has been on the $15,000 winning bonus for the Black Stars players. But to a member of the governments communication machinery, Ghanaians are too concerned with how much is being spent without considering the long-term fortunes it will raise for the country if the Black Stars qualifies for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The senior national team, Black Stars has been promised $15,000 each if they win their match against Egypt on Tuesday. But the announcement of this amount has been greeted with criticisms of governments illogical spending on a group of players who are already rich without considering other sectors which are in need of financial support to develop the country. Speaking to the issue on Okay Fm, Bernard Anim Piesie averred that Ghanaians should consider football as a business entity. He explained that the actual winning bonus from GNPC is $10,000 dollars but looking at the importance weve attached to the match, President Mahama has promised $5,000 each to the players if they win over their opponent. To him, the incentive is just to propel the players to kill themselves for their country. .it is time for Ghanaians to consider the outcome of the investment if we qualify for the Brazil 2014 World Cup and not only concentrate on how much is been given out to the players. The turn-over is huge because the appearance fee is $40 million dollars which will be more than the money we have invested in the team, he enlightened. Turning his attention on those comparing Ghanas winning bonus to what other African and European countries are offering their players, the NDC activist posited that those countries must have invested in something else in addition to the winning bonuses they have promised their players. He therefore concluded that the Black Stars have reached the most crucial part in their qualifying campaign where every effort must be made to ensure victory for the team in order not to make all the other investments go to waste.
