Former Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister honoured

Global Media Foundation (GLOMEF), a media advocacy Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) on Tuesday honored Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, a former Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, for his contributions to the growth of the media in the Region. For his prize, Mr Nyamekye-Marfo received a citation under the GLOMEF Excellent Award, instituted by the NGO, to honour personalities in the Region who have distinguished themselves in political and the academic fronts. Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Nyarko, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani West and a former Minister of State in the erstwhile President John Agyekum Kufuor led-New Patriotic Party (NPP) government also received a similar citation for his contribution to the development of Brong-Ahafo. Mr Nyamekye-Marfo said the media played a critical role in accelerated national development and as a powerful tool any country which sidelined the media could not develop at a faster pace. He said the government appreciated the role of the media and that was why it continues to ensure that the media executes its national duties without any obstruction. Mr Nyamekye-Marfo appealed to the media to focus on how to tackle the issue of poor sanitation and the challenges in especially the health and education sectors. He expressed appreciation to the NGO for the honour, which he said had come as a surprise to him. Mr Raphael Godlove Ahenu, Chief Executive Officer of GLOMEF, said the award was instituted by the NGO in 2010 to appreciate and recognize the contributions of individuals and organizations to the growth of the Region. He emphasised the importance of imbibing the youth with a spirit of nationalism and patriotism to enable them grow to render selfless services in their communities and the nation. Mr Adjei-Nyarko expressed optimism that the NGO would not align itself or meddle in partisan politics as that could affect their operations.
