The Enquirer newspaper has uncovered moves by some elements within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to launch a smear campaign against Mr. Johnson Aseidu Nketia and Dr. Kwabena Adjei, General Secretary and Chairman of the party respectively. Those activating the heinous agenda are linked to persons during the yet-be-held delegates congress to elect national executives of the NDC. Although, Mr. Nketia, popularly called as Mosquito, has said that the party's Constitution and electoral system would be reformed, no date has been fixed for the Constituency, Regional and National elections. Again, it is not clear whether Dr. Adjei and Mr. Nketia would seek re-election. Interestingly, persons interested in contesting in various national positions are keeping their intentions close to their chests. The mode of operation of those behind the agenda is to use the names of some bigwigs within the NDC as having problems with Dr. Adjei and Mr. Nketia. Names of power-brokers would be used to pitch Dr. Adjei and Mr. Nketia against the delegates who would be eligible to vote at the party�s congress. What is preventing the full campaign against the two is the fact that the NDC has not had elections at constituency and regional levels yet. Some serial callers of the NDC would be made to call into various radio programmes to downplay the achievement of the two party chiefs. The campaign is to make it look as if the two had not worked well to merit another election. The NDC took over from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2008 under the Chairmanship of Dr. Adjei, while Mr. Nketia was the General Secretary. The two also guided the party to retain power in 2012. Mr. Nketia popularly called 'Mosquito' soared when he mounted the witness box during the election petition hearing at the Supreme Court when Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and two other members of the NPP decided to challenge the results of the December 2012 Presidential elections. Dr. Adjei, also known as �Wayoo� on the other hand, is not known to be the talking type, but a man to trust for his grass roots organizational skills. It is believed that he worked secretly towards the NDC�s victory in 2008 and 2012. Dr. Adjei in the recent past, in reacting to some of the things some persons were saying about him, said that being the quiet type does not in any way make him a weak person. Mr. Nketia has over the years made it clear that he was interested in other persons coming forward to contest him. In fact, Dr. Adjei And Mr. Nketia have been praised at the grass roots folks of the party.
