Oye Lithur Under Fire... Mahama Charged To Investivgate Her

The Opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart, Kwabena Sarpong, has charged President John Dramani to launch an inquiry into the alleged misconduct by Nana Oye Lithur, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection. The Minister was reported to have threatened to cause the arrest of the Deputy, Ms Rachel Florence Appoh and Director of Social Welfare Christian Babooroh. The alleged arrest threats were issued by the Minister following the actions take by the two officials who authorized the released of an 18-month-old baby girl to have foster parents after finding out that the girls mother was mentally challenged. But the two officials alleged incurred the unbridled rage of Nana Oye Lithur because the Deputy Minister had authorized Mr. Babooloh to give the child to good Samaritans Jennifer and Shirley. The mentally unstable woman is reportedly receiving treatment at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital but the Minister, who would not hear any explanation, ordered for the return of the baby girl who has with her foster parents for their weeks. The Minister, who is said not to be on good talking terms with her two deputies, gave them a 24-hour ultimatum on Monday evening to return the baby or else face a jail term. Speaking on Oman FM, Kwabena Sarpong found the Ministers misconduct unacceptable, hence calling the President to take the necessary action against her, saying that the Ministers misconduct cast a sneer on the Mahama-led administration and further causes an adverse effects on Ghanaians and the entire nation. Additionally, Managing Editor of the Punch Newspaper, Ebenezer Ato Sam, otherwise known as Baby Ansaba, stressed that the Ministers misconduct has brough, her office into disrepute. According to him, the Minister has no power or whatsoever to issue such threats to her Deputy and the Director of Social Welfare for doing their job. He, therefore, was of a strong view that Nana Oye Lithur should be arrested in the stead of the two officials, adding If theres somebody who has to be arrested and questioned, its the Minister. He insisted. He explained she has no power in the first place to order the arrest of the Director of the Social Welfare; for what purpose? What illegally has the man perpetuated? What illegality has he involved himself except to say that the childs mother is unhealthy, so take her away and when we need her, we will come for her? To him, the Minister did not display any of the traits, the humble traits of the President I know. If anything, Mahama should call her and scold her for the blatant and sheer display of the power she does not have. What power do you have as the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection?
