The Intended Demonstration By The Concerned Youth Of East/North Ayawaso In Relations To This Nima/Mamobi Urban Storm Management Project

We the concern youth of East/North Ayawaso wish once again to commend the Atta Mills lead government for considering our plight by commissioning the Nima/Maamobi urban storm management project (Nima drainage project) in Nima, the suburb of Accra. The said project continue to be dear to us and the entire indigenes of East and North Ayawaso as a result of the poor drainage system and the danger it posses to peoples life and properties. The said project was commission in October, 2011 by the late president J.E. Atta Mills and expected to be completed in less than two years. It is unfortunate that the work done so far after two years is less than fifty (50%) per cent of the total work and it has come to a standstill at the moment. The current state of the work has become more dangerous and a disaster prone areas as peoples houses continue to fall, a possible rain today may course heavy flooding in the area. It is interesting to note that in the last two months, more than ten houses along the drain have fallen and the following questions still remain unanswered about the project: 1. What is the amount of fund allocated to the project by the late president for the project and the where about of that fund? 2. What is the real duration of the project as at now? 3. What is the reason for the halt of the work by Worcul LTD ( 2nd contractor) 4. How much current fund available for the project and what is the source? 5. What is the assessment of the work done so far. Below is the information available to us as far as the contract is concern: 1. The contractor confirms he cannot fund the project and has not yet been paid for the work done so far. 2. The quality of the work is questionable as confirm by both members of parliament of both Ayawaso North and East, and the assembly men around the area. 3. Several materials obtain for the work by Probasa LTD (1st contractor) continue to vanish from the site at the mercy of the current contractor. 4. The contractor continues to lay off of his workers at this early stage of the work. 5. Excavator meant for the contract is currently use for other contract in the mining industry. 6. The site engineer from hydrological service department has abandon the work and the site operation committee no longer function From the above, it has become obvious that both our leaders and the contractor are not committed to the construction of the Nima /maamobi drainage project and we the concern youth of East / North Ayawaso has lost confidence in them. In our quest to protect the live and property of the people of East and North Ayawaso, we are going to launch our monthly successive demonstrations in registering our displeasure on 18th of November, 2013 by a peaceful match along the principal street of Accra and present a petition to the seat of government. We are inviting all youth across the National Capital to join this worthy course in solidarity with us to ensure that the said drainage system is constructed. GOD BLESS OUR HOME LAND GHANA. GOD BLESS US ALL. ........Signed....... ALHAJI JABIR SHANUN MOUKTAR MENDE (Convener) 0267 126158 COMRADE NAZIR IDDRISS (P.R.O.) 0243 502001
