Pharmaceutical Society Of Ghana (PSGH) On The Arrest And Detention Of Pharm. Agyeman Badu By The BNI

The attention of the PSGH has been drawn to a media report of the arrest and detention of Pharm. Agyeman Badu, the Pharmacist-in-Charge of the Goaso Municipal Hospital. The Society has been informed that he voluntarily responded to a personal informal invitation to appear at the BNI Headquarters at 9 am on Friday, 8th November, 2013. We are very worried and disturbed by the incident as he is a professional working in his regular line of duty. The PSGH has received several complaints and queries from his immediate family and pharmacists across the nation while all attempts by the PSGH leadership to reach him have failed. The PSGH urgently calls on the BNI to: 1. immediately explain why our colleague has been detained since Friday, November 8, 2013. 2. without any further delay release Pharm. Agyeman Badu or press the necessary charges against him and put him before a competent court. The PSGH further calls on the National Security Council, the Ministry of Health/Ghana Health Service (his employers) and the Ministry of Interior to intervene to ensure his immediate release. The PSGH calls on all pharmacists in both public and private sectors to remain calm and continue serving our patients across the nation. Thank you. Pharm. James Ohemeng Kyei PRESIDENT
