Year-on-year inflation for October 2013 recorded 13.1 percent, up from 11.9 percent recorded for September 2013. Edward Asuo Afram, Director, Economic Statistics Division of the Ghana Statistical Service, who launched the latest CPI report yesterday in Accra, said the monthly change rate for October 2013 was 2.3 percent against -0.7 percent recorded in September 2013. He said the food and non-alcoholic beverages group recorded an average year-on-year inflation rate of 6.9 percent, 2.0 percentage points lower than the 8.9 percent recorded in September 2013. Mr Asuo Afram explained that three sub-groups of the food and non-alcoholic beverages group recorded inflation rates above the group�s average of 6.9 percent. The non-food group recorded an average year-on-year inflation rate of 17.7 percent in October 2013, compared to 14.2 percent recorded in September 2013. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels recorded the highest rate of 33.4 percent followed by transport (26.3 percent) and clothing and footwear (18.3 percent). Mr Asuo Afram said inflation was low in the communication sub-group recording 2.5 percent. At the regional level, he said the year-on-year inflation rate ranged from 5.7 percent in the Upper East region to 15.8 percent in the Western region. Three regions � Western, Greater Accra and Eastern- recorded inflation rates above the national average of 13.1 percent.
