Kalou Offered To Arsenal In A 2.5m Deal

Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Salomon Kalou in January. The former Chelsea forward, currently at French club Lille, is keen on a return to the Barclays Premier League in the next transfer window. And Kalou, who has a 2.5million release clause, has instructed his advisors to gauge interest among English clubs ahead of January. Arsenal are among those who have been made aware of the Ivory Coast international's availability in recent weeks. As it stands, the Gunners, who are in the market for a forward, are keeping their options open. Manager Arsene Wenger is desperate to sign cover for current centre-forward Olivier Giroud, a position Kalou can play. Arsenal came close to signing Kalou in January 2012, but the forward turned down a move after he was asked to take a 20,000-per-week pay cut from his 60,000-per-week salary at Stamford Bridge. But Arsenal are looking for more of an out-and-out central striker in their attempts to take the pressure of Giroud. Kalou would desirably prefer a move to London, but would consider a move away from the capital if the right move presented itself. West Bromwich manager Steve Clarke was interested in Kalou over the summer, but the pacy 28-year-old opted to stay in France.
