Rachel Appoh Donates To Schools

The Member of Parliament for the Gomoa Central Constituency in the Central Region, Ms Florence Rachel Appoh, has presented sports items to some selected basic schools in her constituency. The items worth GH24,000 include 40 sets of jerseys, 10 vests and 40 footballs. Each school was given a set of jerseys and a football. At the presentation ceremony, Ms Appoh said the items were to assist the beneficiary schools to take active part in their annual inter schools sports activities. She noted that the area was a deprived one, with most of the schools not having sports items and having to hire some from football teams and schools. She added that the gesture was to promote sports in the schools. According to her, some of the pupils have talent in sports and they should be encouraged to make it a career in future. She said the items were meant to motivate the students to actively nurture their future ambitions in the various sporting disciplines. The MP, who is a sportswoman, advised the students to combine their interest in sports with academic work, since the two would guarantee them a successful career in future. The Gomoa East District Director of Education, Mrs Grace Adzo Obodai, who received the items for onward distribution to the beneficiary schools, acknowledged that most of the schools in the district did not have sports kits and were always forced to hire the items in order to take part in sporting activities. She lauded the MP for the items, saying that the presentation of the items was a big relief to the beneficiary schools and would also go a long way to unearth the talents in the pupils. She appealed to the heads of the schools to take good care of the items.
