The Chief Policy Analyst at the Ghana Institute for Public Policy Options (GIPPO), Dr Charles Wereko-Brobbey, has hit out at those advocating for the hiring of a foreign technical adviser to assist Black Stars Coach, Kwesi Appiah. Despite persistent denials by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), rumours that a foreign technical adviser is being sought have intensified, with Klaus Toppmoller, a 62-year-old German coach, strongly linked to the position. Speaking Tuesday on Joy FM ahead of the second leg of the Ghana-Egypt World Cup play-offs in Cairo, Dr Wereko-Brobbey said Ghanaians should be proud that coach Appiah is doing so well. He said there was the need to encourage coach Appiah instead of distracting him with talks of a foreign technical expatriate. Dr Wereko-Brobbey said: �Here we have a native coach doing so well, and what are we talking about? Foreign technical staff. This is the kind of negative stuff I keep saying. You know� one of our own is doing well. Let�s spur him on. When he�s finished, the GNPC oil money � give him more of it for qualifying.� Touching on the Ghana-Egypt match, Dr Wereko-Brobbey called on the Black Stars defenders to avoid back-pedaling when on the defensive against the Egyptians. He urged the Black Stars to halt the advance of the Egyptians by outmuscling them in the middle of the park. �Don�t keep going back as you see some defenders doing. Put some �takakyi�(aggression) into the midfield and hold them there� he said. Ghana go into the Egypt match with a 6-1 lead from the first leg in Kumasi and need a draw or a win to secure passage to Brazil. Egypt, however, need a five-goal margin victory against Ghana to make it to the World Cup finals or four answered goals to at least secure an aggregate draw.
