Local Black Stars Thrash Sierra Leone In GoTV WAFU Opener

Ghana�s Local Black Stars rallied from a goal down to record an impressive 4-1 win over Sierra Leone in their opening GOtv Wafu Nations Cup game on Thursday. The visitors put their noses in front early in the first half through Kwaino Kwei but lost their grounds to lose by the emphatic scoreline at the Baba Yara stadium. It was a stirred second half performance that saw the Ghanaians score through Theophilus Anobah, Michael Akuffo, Latif Abdulai and in-form King Faisal striker Sulley Mohammed. Ghanaian midfielder Latif Abdulai was voted GoTV man of the match while Sierra Leonean John Kwaku Davies won the Fair Play Award at the Baba Yara stadium. Head coach Maxwell Konadu returned to the bench after helping the senior Black Stars to qualify for next year�s FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Ghana will play Benin and Burkina Faso in the other group A game The competition is reserved for only home-based players of member nations. Winners of the two groups will progress to the final while the second placed team in each group will vie for third position. Coach Konadu is using this tournament to prepare his side for the 2014 African Nations Championships (CHAN) finals in South Africa.
